The Only FDA Certified Red Blend for Soap and Cosmetics!

What Makes Revolutionary Red so Special?

Revolutionary Red is the only red blend for soap and cosmetics that is FDA certified and approved for use in cosmetic formulations.

It is mixed at Nurture Soap and made with Elara™ cosmetic colorants from the US-based DayGlo Color Corp. Each fluorescent pigment is made from batch certified dyes or lakes, with batch certification for each dye or lake used available upon request.

Other red blends for soap - even those claiming to be for use with cosmetics - are not made with batch certified dyes.

Additionally, Elara™ colorants can be used in oil-based and solvent or water-born formulations. These colorants employ a revolutionary new thermoset polymer that is resistant to the solvents commonly employed in nail enamels and hair sprays. This makeup colorant performs well in all types of personal care products, including lip gloss and lipsticks, lotions and soaps, face paint, temporary hair color, and nail lacquer, to name a few.

In short - Revolutionary Red is a cosmetic colorant powerhouse!

What is Batch Certification, and Why Does it Matter?

There is one manufacturer that most fluorescent colors come from. They are not US-based and perhaps exempt from US law. They market the neons as, for example, Polyurethane11 (and) D&C red no. 28, but when asked, they stated that the dye used (D&C red no. 28) was, in fact, not certified.

The issue is that each batch of dyes and lakes must be analyzed and certified by the FDA for use in cosmetics. If not, the dye or lake must be identified by its uncertified name and marked as non-cosmetic grade.

For example, uncertified D&C red no. 28 is acid red 92, and uncertified FD&C yellow 5 is tartrazine, as seen in many of our neon pigments.

It’s against the law to market FDA-regulated products in the United States that contain a certifiable color additive from an uncertified batch. If you see a neon color or color blend containing polyurethane 11 and "certified" dye, buyer beware. It is not truly certified, and it is not cosmetic grade.

    Soap Use Notes

    • Use rate in cold & hot process soaps: 1.5-2 teaspoons per pound of oils.
    • Use rate in melt & pour soaps: .5 teaspoons per pound of oils.

~ More or less can be added to achieve your desired color. These usage rates are recommended for no colored lather. ~

It is very important to start with a white base. Soaping oils that are yellow or green will affect any color. Do not add Titanium Dioxide to whiten the base, as this will make the red more pastel.

Do not use more than 2 teaspoons per pound! You don't need to. This color is a rich red at 1.5 - 2 tsp. per pound of oils (a great use rate for red). More will make a more brick colored red than using it at the recommended use rate.

Revolutionary Red will need to be blended into your soap well for best results. You may portion off a tablespoon (or so) of your soap making oils and disperse the color before adding it to your soap.

When used at 2 tsp. per pound of oils in CP soap, this red would transfer to a washcloth but once rinsed, come right off the cloth. You may want to test a small amount for staining if you are concerned that this color may stain washcloths.

This is the most natural mineral red color pigment that I've found. There's no pink or blue tones to it at all. It gives me ochre vibes, even though there's no brownish yellow tones in it. On the skin, it looks completely natural, like an intense red blush or sunburn. I can't wait to actually use it in my projects. I'm super excited. It's going to be beautiful.
